How the typical British teatime is bringing cultures together at an old people's home in Murcia
A British tradition is helping to unite international and Spanish residents at Caser Residencial Santo Ángel through shared conversation and connection and a good, old-fashioned cuppa
Caser Residencial Santo Ángel recently hosted a charming teatime gathering that brought together residents of its International Unit with local Spanish residents in a celebration of cross-cultural exchange. The event blended the comfort of a traditional British afternoon tea with the “warmth of Spanish hospitality”, creating a relaxed setting for “meaningful interaction”.
The International Unit at Caser Residencial in Murcia is specifically designed for elderly expats and foreign residents who may not speak Spanish. It offers tailored care in English, helping international residents feel at home while receiving high-quality support for everything from rehabilitation to long-term care.
This special teatime occasion was part of the centre’s broader aim to foster community, understanding and friendship between residents of different backgrounds. Over cups of tea, homemade cakes and friendly conversation, barriers were broken down and new connections formed.
According to Caser Residencial, they “enjoyed a very special Tea Time with the residents of the International Unit. An afternoon of flavours, cultures and good times that allowed people to connect through closeness and conversation.”
The event highlighted the centre’s commitment to not only meeting the medical and practical needs of its residents, but also supporting their emotional wellbeing and social inclusion, regardless of nationality or language.
With more British and other international retirees choosing to live in Spain, initiatives like this underline the importance of inclusive care in the third age that respects both cultural identity and community integration.
