Águilas beaches: Cala de los Abejorros

Águilas beaches: Cala de los Abejorros

The Cala de los Abejorros is one of a string of undeveloped coves and beaches in Aguilas

The Playa de los Abejorros is a wild and pebbled cove or cala which forms part of a long series of unspoilt beaches and coves which lie on the eastern coast of the municipality between the headland of Cabo Cope in the south and the Playa de la Galera, which marks the boundary with Lorca a few kilometres further north.

The Cala de los Abejorros is 180 metres long and 13 metres wide, with a shingle base, and is a low occupancy beach due to its isolated location on a little transited section of the coast.

This is one of a string of beaches along a coastal track which can be accessed from the RM-D15 road: the northern end of the track is best reached by heading off the road at the bar-restaurant El Pocico and following tracks across farmland down to the coast via the Rambla de Elena, while the southern end heads back up to the road at Playa del Rafal. The driving on this route is far from conventional, but if taken slowly is not especially dangerous and off-road vehicles are not a necessity!

As is only to be expected, there are no services here and beachgoers choosing this type of isolated location generally like it that way, so are very happy to bring their own supplies or drive back to the restaurant when hunger calls.

This is the 34th beach in the series of 36 Águilas beaches which run along the 28 kilometres of Águilas coast, working from the Almería coastline in the west down to the Lorca municipality and offer both urban and wild beaches.
