Attacker jailed for stabbing Norwegian man at Murcia bus station over slot machine winnings
A 20-year-old has been sent to prison for attacking a Norwegian man with a machete outside Murcia's San Andrés bus station

A young attacker has been jailed after stabbing a Norwegian man outside San Andrés bus station in Murcia city, in an attempt to steal his slot machine winnings.
The attack happened just before 12.45am on Sunday January 25, shortly after the 37-year-old had won a prize in the arcade inside the station. Outside on the street, the suspect struck him in the stomach with a machete, witnesses said.
The victim was left conscious but seriously injured on the path. A security guard at the scene helped immediately, and a 29-year-old Moroccan man stepped in to defend him. He was also badly hurt in the struggle and had to be taken to Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital.
Although initial reports spoke of two attackers, police confirmed there was only one. The second man had only intervened to help the Norwegian and suffered severe cuts as a result.
The suspect appeared before the Juzgado de Guardia on Tuesday and was sent to prison without bail. He faces charges of attempted murder or grievous bodily harm, as well as robbery with violence.
The Norwegian man underwent emergency surgery at Morales Meseguer hospital. Witnesses described him as having lost a lot of blood and suffering deep cuts to his stomach. He is now recovering from his injuries.
