Cut price parking for visitors to Lorca
The tourist information office can provide vouchers giving parking discounts
All efforts are made in Lorca to facilitate parking for visitors to the city and to this end the Town Hall has instigated a number of schemes to enable those visiting the city to park their cars cheaply and conveniently for the day.
One of the most convenient parking locations for visitors is outside the La Merced visitors’ centre, a recommended starting point for a visit to the historic city centre and a location which provides ample parking facilities. Here the recommended procedure for visitors is to pay the maximum amount accepted by the parking metres, which is 1.45€ (exact change only), thus initially purchasing two hours of parking.
Having done this, go inside the visitors’ centre and explain to staff the nature of your visit, maybe buying the tourist wristband which allows entrance to castle and the four main embroidery museums in the city at the bargain price of just 6 euros, and they will supply a chit which effectively extends the two hours to an all-day stay.
Alternatively, it is possible to enjoy 50 per cent discounts at three of the paying car parks in the city centre, namely Parking Las Siervas, Parking Lorca Centro and Parking Colón. At these three locations tickets should be obtained as usual, and then visitors who go to the tourist information office in Plaza de España and sign up for guided tours, take advantage of the tourist wristband or pay the admission fee to the magnificent former Collegiate Church of San Patricio or the embroidery museums can request a voucher: this voucher entitles the holder to a 50% discount when the time comes to leave the car park concerned.
The recommended route to Parking Lorca Centro in the Plaza de Abastos is to take the exit at kilometre 628 of the A-7 motorway and approach the city centre from the east. At the entrance to the city take the left fork at a roundabout, following the signs towards Águilas, and follow the Avenida de Europa across the River Guadalentín and onto Avenida Juan Carlos I.
Then take the fourth right turn onto Calle Musso Valiente, crossing Calle Lope Gisbert onto Calle del Álamo and continuing right up to the Town Hall, where in order to negotiate the one-way system a left turn takes you through the arch under the building onto Calle Selgas. Follow this street to the end, and then double back left onto Calle Santa Victoria and Calle Granero: the car park is on the left, just two minutes’ walk from the tourist information office.
The car park in Plaza de Colón is a little easier to find: follow the above route but after taking Calle Musso Valiente turn left onto Calle Lope Gisbert. The entrance to the car park is on the left, just after the red building of Teatro Guerra.
