March 29 Free guided hike to trace the steps of legendary bandit Jaime El Barbudo
Explore the Sierra de la Pila in Abarán and see the place where a dramatized re-enactment of Jaime’s death in 1824
On 5th July 2024 it was exactly 200 years since the renowned bandit Jaime “El Barbudo” was executed in the Cueva de la Excomunión in the mountains of the Sierra de la Pila, one of his preferred hideouts, and since then there has been a a series of guided hikes to commemorate the anniversary.
This one on Sunday 29th March is scheduled to last from 10.00 to approximately 13.30, following a 5.5-km route, and is entirely free of charge, although prior registration is required online here as of 14th March at 9.30. It is of low to medium difficulty but of course participants should be wearing appropriate hiking gear and bring along a rucksack containing drinking water and a snack.
