Murcia prepares for Easter traffic as hundreds of thousands hit the roads
Traffic controls, mobile radars, drones, and helicopters will be in place across the Region on the busiest days

The Region of Murcia is expecting a very busy period on its roads as the second phase of the Easter traffic operation begins. Starting today at 3:00pm, Wednesday April 1 and running until midnight on Monday April 6, around 455,000 journeys are expected throughout the Region.
To manage the increase in vehicles and keep drivers safe, the Guardia Civil’s traffic division will deploy 232 officers across the main roads. They will be supported by the Region’s traffic management centres and electronic signs that provide updates and warnings to drivers about traffic conditions and any incidents.
Speed monitoring will also be stepped up during this period. In addition to fixed and average-speed cameras, six mobile radar units will be operating on key routes. Helicopters and drones may also be used to provide aerial support and monitor traffic from above, allowing authorities to respond quickly if there are delays or accidents.
The busiest days are expected to be Holy Thursday and Good Friday, when traffic will remain heavy throughout the day. The main peak times are likely to be in the late morning between 10:00am and 2:00pm and again in the evening from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. These are the times when many people are travelling to holiday destinations, visiting family, or heading to the coast for the long weekend.
During the first phase of the Easter traffic operation, which took place between March 27 and 29, three accidents with injuries were recorded on the main roads in the region. Two people suffered minor injuries and one person was more seriously hurt.
Authorities are advising drivers to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra time to reach their destinations. The combination of holiday traffic and additional safety measures is likely to slow travel on the busiest routes, so it is important for drivers to remain patient and follow the instructions of traffic officers and road signs.
