Playa de la Roqueta Platja de la Roqueta in Guardamar del Segura
A fine golden sand beach in an urban but relaxed setting in Guardamar del Segura
As the visitor approaches Guardamar del Segura from the south the Playa de la Roqueta is the first of the beaches which lie alongside the built-up area of the town itself. While to the south the Playa de las Ortigas, Playa del Campo and Playa del Moncayo require something of a cross-dune hike to reach the shore, the Playa de la Roqueta is easily accessed from the Avenida de la Libertad and other neighbouring residential streets.
The centre of the 1.1-kilometre-long beach lies in front of a square in which there is a Red Cross point and wheelchair access, and on the sand the beach bar and sun lounger hire do brisk business in the summer months. The beach also boasts lifeguard cover, pedal boat hire, a children’s play area and a special toilet for the disabled, and has been awarded the coveted Blue Flag status in recognition of all these facilities.
Special aid for disabled bathers is provided every day of the week in July and August from 10.15 to 13.45, and the key to the disabled toilet is available from the Red Cross outside this timetable.
The area immediately behind the beach is occupied mainly by residential properties, but there are some bars, restaurants and shops on the Avenida de la Libertad, as well as a hotel. Without being a fully urban beach, the Playa de la Roqueta therefore offers visitors a number of ancillary services apart from the sea and sand themselves, and is a popular destination for sun-seekers and bathers.
Unfortunately the scarcity of parking spaces in summer has led the Town Hall to install parking meters in most of the area, but this ought not to spoil a day at the beach in one of the less stressful urban settings on the Costa Blanca!
