Playa del Campo / Platja del Camp, Guardamar del Segura
2km long undeveloped beach, accessed via dunes
An unbroken stretch of sand against the backdrop of the dunes at one of the more rural beaches in Guardamar
This is the second most southern of the stretches of beach along the coastline of Guardamar del Segura, lying between the Playa de las Ortigas and the Playa del Moncayo and between picturesque dunes and the Mediterranean.
Although the N-332 is no more than a couple of hundred metres away, it can seem further on a hot day as to get to the sand visitors have to cross the dunes on foot. The paths are smooth and clear and the vegetation is attractive (pines, palms and eucalyptus) but with all the beach paraphernalia to transport a set of wheels and adequate footwear are recommended!
The beach is away from built-up areas and is relatively undeveloped, but facilities include a Red Cross point, a beach bar and sun lounger hire in the central part of this two-kilometre stretch of sand. Apart from the beach bar there are no eating establishments except the bar at the nearby campsite, so a well-stocked coolbox is an important element for the enjoyment of a day on the sand here. A beach volleyball net is provided in summer for those wishing to work up a sweat, and as at all beaches in Guardamar in peak season the rubbish bins are emptied daily.
One of the positive factors about these pine fringed dune beaches is that it's possible to walk back into the shade of the pine tree fringe during the really hot weather: although most of us come to Spain for the sun, 35 degrees in August can get a bit much for even the most hardened sun worshippers and the dune areas are always cooler.
Parking to reach the Playa del Campo is easiest near the roundabout which lies to the south of the small Moncayo residential development on the N-332 and north of Pinomar.
In short, this beach is close to perfect for people who hope to enjoy a pristine stretch of the Costa Blanca without the distractions of mass tourism, yet with the proximity of more developed areas nearby.
The downside is that, like it or not, many of us are creatures of comfort and have grown accustomed to a complete range of services and facilities some of which, due to the dune location, are not provided at Playa del Campo.
