Playa del Conde, Pilar de la Horadada
Picturesque scenery and full facilities for the disabled in an urban beach location
The Playa del Conde, is part of a long run of beaches stretching from Cala Redonda to Playa del Conde, with Playa Jesuitas in the centre and is indistinguishable from the other beaches in this stretch.
The name of this beach comes from the Count who owned the old watchtower, the Torre de la Horadada, which stands at the southern end of the beach, and the historical atmosphere provided by the tower adds to this picturesque beach’s popularity.
The beach lies below the raised avenue immediately north of the watchtower in La Torre de la Horadada, but access for wheelchairs is provided by a ramp, and there is a special toilet for the disabled as well the possibility of using amphibious bathing chairs.
Although it’s a fair way down from the Avenida del Mediterraneo which runs along the edge of the cliff-top, the water is clear and normally calm, and many families choose to come here with small children.
There is a beach bar to cool down in after a hard session in the sun, and being located right next to the centre of La Torre de la Horadada it’s not far to the shops and restaurants.
Unfortunately, due to its location in the heart of the town there is no car park, but normally spaces can be found close by as most of those using the beach walk to it from their accommodation: residential areas line the coast all along this stretch.
Being one of the smaller beaches in the area at 210 metres long there are fewer people than on other beaches, but even so at the weekend in summer it is, like all beaches, busy!
As at all of Pilar’s beaches, footwashes are provided and there is a lifeguard service during Easter and from the middle of June to mid-September, and at weekends from 15th September to 15th October.
This is a Blue Flag beach.
