Rugby at La Manga Club

The rugby training facilities have been used by many teams, including the British and Irish teams

Rugby at La Manga ClubAs well as football and tennis stars, top rugby pros and teams have also been attracted by the facilities at La Manga Club, where one of the football pitches has been specifically designed to be converted into a rugby pitch. This makes La Manga an ideal venue for winter training breaks, with the climate having tempted teams such as the Great Britain Rugby League team, the Irish national squad, Munster Rugby, Racing Metro 92 (France), Bradford Bulls and Castleford Tigers, all of whom have taken advantage of the top class facilities at the resort.

Of course the pitch itself is complemented by rugby goalposts, training materials, fully equipped changing rooms and press facilities, and sports pros are also welcome to use all the facilities at La Manga Clubs Fitness Centre.

In summer 2013 there was a rugby academy run by Michael Owen, the former Welsh Six Nations champion who led his country to its first Grand Slam in twenty-seven years in 2005. The academy was open to youngsters aged nine to sixteen, and it is hoped that the experience, which featured a wide range of aspects related to the game such as Attacking, Tactical Appreciation and Game Understanding, Contact Skills and Decision Making in Defence, Evasion and Speed, Agility and Balance,  will be repeated in the future.

Further information about all rugby activities is available at +34 968 331234, including details of group rates for teams wishing to combine accommodation and the use of the top class sports and fitness facilities.
