September 27 and 28 Spanish Motocross championships in Alhama de Murcia
Spectacular racing at the municipal Las Salinas circuit in Alhama
Late September and early October see a flurry of events and activities in Alhama de Murcia on account of the annual Fair taking place, and among the early highlights is the holding of the Spanish Motocross MX Elite championships at the municipal circuit (click for map) over the weekend of 27th and 28th September.
Councillor Toni Sibina reports that the circuit of Alhama is recognized as “one of the best in the country”, and that Alhama is proud to welcome back such a prestigious event, while at the same time inviting all members of the public to come along and enjoy the competitive atmosphere and spectacular racing.
Meanwhile, Sebastián Muñoz, the president of Motoclub Alhama, reiterates that the group has been holding motocross events during the Feria for 30 years, constantly improving the circuit and ancillary facilities, and that this year they hope to be rewarded with the presence of a large crowd.
The Racing begins on Saturday 27th September at 12.30 with classification for the main event, and in the afternoon there are races in the MX1 and MX2 categories. On the Sunday there are further races in the MX1, MX2 and MX125 followed by a spectacular “Supersprint” event featuring the best 15 riders in each category and a star guest, Joan Barreda, a former official Honda rider in the Dakar raid.
Admission is available on the gate from 10.00 onwards on Saturday and from 8.00 on Saturday.

Oficina de Turismo de Alhama de Murcia
Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.
The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.
The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.
The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
