The Casa Pintada in Abanilla

The Casa Pintada in Abanilla

The 16th century residence of a wealthy family in the centre of Abanilla

The Casa Pintada (painted house) is the name given to the oldest of the mansion-style residences in the town of Abanilla, on account of its deep red exterior.

This noble home was built in the 16th century, and apart from its distinctive colouring the façade also features a remarkable main doorway surrounded by a rectangular frieze and topped by the coat of arms of the family which lived here. The rest of the façade is actually fairly plain, apart from the curious round pinnacles over the doorway, but it is an impressive demonstration of the wealth which existed as a result of agriculture around Abanilla in centuries gone by.

The house is in the hands of private owners, and cannot be visited.

Address: Calle Encomienda nº 6 (click for map location)
