Until September 14 El Prodigio Impensado art exhibition by Lidó Rico in Mazarron
Works commemorating miners who lost their lives in Mazarrón at the Casas Consistoriales and the Casino
A collection of 30 works by artist Lidó Rico is being displayed this summer at the Casas Consistoriales and the Casino of Mazarrón under the title of “El Prodigio Impensado”, commemorating the men who lost their lives working in the local mines during the 19th and 20th centuries.
This is a highly emotional exhibition, and at the official opening on February 17 the artist stated that on unwrapping the exhibits at the venues he heard the cries and pain of the miners and his hair stood on end.
Although he is from Yecla, Rico has forged a strong bond with Mazarrón and is keen that the stories behind each exhibit should not be forgotten. For this reason, the exhibition is named after the Mina Impensada, where an accident on 16th February 1893 resulted in the deaths of 28 men.
The exhibition is open in winter on weekdays and Saturdays from 10.00 to 14.00 and on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 17.00 to 20.00.
In summer the afternoon timetable shifts to 17.30 to 20.30.
As an exception, the doors are not open on the last Saturday of every month.
